The Egoista 2A3 is slightly different from the Egoista 845, but of equally high quality.
Less powerful than the 845 (which uses 845 triode tubes), the 2A3 (which uses 2A3 triode tubes) is even more tonally rich. Here we have the classic tube sound presented in its finest form.
The timbres are even more enveloping than with the 845, and vocals sound even more accurate and human. The timbres of acoustic instruments like the violin, piano, viola da gamba, brass instruments, etc., are shimmering, with a richness that even the Egoista 845 doesn't offer.
But the 2A3 isn't round; it doesn't offer a soft, "honeyed" sound.
You have to hear how it hits the bass notes, how it rises and reproduces the highest notes of a recorder…
Some would call the 845 "neutral" and the 2A3 "colorful."
Personally, I'd be more cautious, as I don't really know what "neutral" means anymore, and therefore can't conclude that an amplifier that's "richer" or "fuller" than another is necessarily more "colored"...
What I do know, however, because I experience it every day, is that the Egoista 2A3 gives me at least the same level of enjoyment as the 845.
The Egoista 845 will be more comfortable, thanks to its immense available power (2x15W), with very demanding headphones, such as the JPS Labs Abyss or the Hifiman Susvara.
That being said, this new Viva 2A3, more powerful than the original model, is now capable of driving 95% of headphones to their fullest potential!
It's also recognized as one of the most powerful amplifiers for driving what is perhaps the best headphones in the world: the exceptional RAAL Immanis!
And for bringing out their full musicality!
For me, the naturalness and beauty of the sound amplified by the Egoista 2A3 are unparalleled.
But again, this is highly subjective, and the Egoista 845 is connected in my listening room, right next to the 2A3, which allows for direct comparison and helps identify which of the two delivers the sound that our ears and hearing equipment prefer!
Like the Egoista 845, the Egoista 2A3 is an amplifier for life, one that will never be outdated because it's built without compromise and doesn't use any technologically new features.
